There are many areas where a helping hand or good advice is needed. Here are a few tips where you can contribute, but we welcome any ideas or suggestions for innovation. Some activities are voluntary, and for some, it is possible to agree on a fee in the form of external cooperation.
Become a volunteer in the Nepalese monasteries of Dagpo Shedrup Ling and Ani Gompa. We offer interested parties the opportunity to volunteer at the monastery schools we support. Come and experience what it is like to live in Nepal among Buddhist monks and children growing up in the monastery school.
What to expect, how it works, and what to bring?
We support two specific monastery schools in Nepal, which we visit several times a year. Based on our personal experiences, we can arrange a volunteer stay at one of these schools for you. We are happy to answer your questions, advise you on how to prepare, and arrange transportation from the airport to the monastery. Prepare for an unforgettable experience, and we will help you with every step of this journey.
Since you will be living and working in a Buddhist monastery where certain rules must be followed, under the auspices of the Nala Foundation, we will first have a personal meeting to get to know each other better, sense the situation, and discuss your ideas, reasons for staying, intentions, expectations, and your possibilities - when and for how long you can travel, what you would like to do at the monastery (whether and what you want to teach the children or if you would prefer to help with the running of the monastery). We will outline for you what life in the monastery looks like, what you need to prepare for, what rules need to be followed, and what is good to bring with you.
After the personal meeting, we will give you a list of things we recommend you pack. We can help you with purchasing plane tickets. We will agree on a date and arrange accommodation and transportation from the airport for that date. We will provide contact information for the person who will pick you up at the airport and accommodate you in one of the monasteries.
Once you arrive, everything is in your hands. You can participate in all meditation sessions, which take place several times a day at the monastery. You can teach children English, geography, natural sciences, hygiene, lead creative classes such as painting, dancing, singing, or take charge of physical education, or even train karate or soccer, which the boys at the monastery school really enjoy. If you do not wish to spend time with children, there are other areas where help is needed - the monastery garden, kitchen, cleaning classrooms, which also need painting. There is also a new monastery building being prepared, so if you are handy and would like to help with its construction, you are welcome.
You will not only give but also receive. Older boys from the monastery, teachers, and other monks can give you tips for trips in the area or answer questions about the monastery, Nepal, and Buddha's teachings.
We will be grateful for any photos and videos you take while you are there.
