Yuthok Yönten Gönpo, the great 12th–13th century Tibetan physician and spiritual master, is remembered for two monumental contributions: the Gyu Shi (Four Medical Tantras), the foundation of Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan Medicine), and the Yuthok Nyingthig, his profound cycle of spiritual teachings.
Within the Yuthok Nyingthig lies a rare treasure: the Geksel, or “Obstacle Eliminator”, the only section of this vast spiritual corpus that explicitly addresses physical and health-related challenges, both in retreat and in daily life. This text reflects Yuthok’s deep conviction that every spiritual practitioner should learn at least some Sowa Rigpa, not only for their own well-being but also to better care for their families and communities.
Practical, compassionate, and directly applicable, the Geksel teachings were designed to help practitioners recognize and remedy the obstacles that arise on the path —whether in meditation, in health, or in everyday living.
In this special three-day course, Dr. Nida Chenagtsang will guide participants through this remarkable 13th-century text, which has only recently been translated into modern languages and has been taught publicly only a few times. This is a rare opportunity to study Yuthok’s unique integration of medical and spiritual wisdom, with insights that remain as relevant today as they were centuries ago.
