Mirek Hrdina, PhD

Mirek has been dedicated to uncovering and sharing the secrets hidden within ancient Tibetan Buddhist texts with the Western world for nearly 20 years, ever since he began studying the language in 2004. Over this time, he has translated dozens of texts and several significant works, contributing to the spread of Buddhist teachings in the Czech Republic.

Mirek began his journey into Tibetan studies in 2004 when he first traveled to Spain as part of his bachelor's distance learning program. After completing his studies and successfully passing entrance exams for a doctoral program in Tibetan studies, he moved with his family to Germany, where he spent three years working on his thesis about the life of a 17th-century Buddhist master. Life circumstances then brought him back to the Czech Republic, where he is currently completing his doctorate. In the meantime, he actively engages in translation, interpreting, and teaching Tibetan at the Nala Center, where he leads classes for the public.

For Mirek, studying Tibetan is a lifelong calling and mission. Despite the initial challenges of this arduous path, requiring diligence and patience, the reward for him is a deeper understanding of Buddhist teachings and often forging closer relationships with various lamas from the East. He also gains insights into the broader cultural context behind individual expressions that open doors to new realms of knowledge.

The knowledge Mirek has acquired through his work translating ancient Buddhist texts and during his nearly 25 years of Buddhist practice, he shares with others through personal encounters. He assists people with their spiritual development and provides consultations on meditation techniques.
